In July 2000, ten South Carolina representatives participated in a national symposium entitled After School Programs: Vision 2000 and Beyond sponsored by the Afterschool Alliance, in collaboration with the Disney Institute, Disney Learning Partnership and US Department of Education. During the Afterschool Symposium, our team engaged in a productive process of visioning, analysis and planning for after school services in South Carolina. The team returned to South Carolina with a shared vision of and a commitment to quality after school programs.
The overall goal of the South Carolina Afterschool Alliance (SCAA) is to establish a statewide network of diverse stakeholders that will guide, support and enable quality after school services and policies for all children and youth.
SCAA mission is to raise awareness, increase sustainability, and promote the importance of quality after school and summer learning programs.
