The 31st edition of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s KIDS COUNT® Data Book describes how children across the United States were faring before the coronavirus pandemic began.
This year’s publication continues to deliver the Foundation’s annual state rankings and the latest available data on child well-being. Johns Hopkins University | eSchool + Initiative
Tracking State and National School Reopening Plans
A team of Johns Hopkins University researchers has launched the “eSchool+ Initiative,” an analysis of school reopening plans.This interactive state tracker curates school reopening plans by state, as well as guidance documents by non-governmental organizations, along six operational criteria: 1. Core Academics; 2. SARS CoV-2 Protection; 3. Before/After School Programs, including Athletics, Childcare, and Extracurriculars; 4. Building Access & Student Transportation; 5. COVID-19 School Reopening Checklist
The COVID-19 School Reopening Response Checklist is a tool to assist school and district leaders and other key stakeholders in the decision-making process as they navigate school reopening. It emphasizes areas in need of attention from an equity and ethics perspective.
The decision-makers can use the Checklist to systematically assess their needs and resources for reopening in 6 areas: continuity of learning, infection control and facilities, food security, health, housing and safety, and supervision.

NASA STEM at Home or School: Using Gravity Assist to Launch a Crew Vehicle

Learn how to design and build a Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) that will carry two – 2 cm sized passengers safely and will fit within a certain volume (size limitation). with supplies found around the house. Design and test a Reusable Launcher for the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV). The CEV should travel 5 meters when launched.

As champions for children, program providers are doing everything they can during this time to keep youth safe and continue to serve them. The South Carolina Afterschool Alliance wants to continue to support providers during this time and beyond. In every way, providers throughout South Carolina and the nation have risen to the challenge in every way.
In support of your efforts, the South Carolina Afterschool Alliance has new resources to share, Mizzen by Mott. Mizzen by Mott is a new app built with and for afterschool professionals to provide high-quality, engaging learning content to the afterschool field.
To meet the needs of this moment, new activity playlists and multi-week modules that can be done at home or in a small-group setting. The app’s content focuses on youth learning and well-being and is provided by organizations like Jazz at Lincoln Center, the California Academy of Sciences, After-School All Stars, OregonAsk, and VentureLab. Through support from the Mott Foundation, the app and all of its content is available for free to afterschool providers.

The Pandemic and Summer Learning Policy 
As summertime rapidly approaches, school district leaders and organizers of summer learning programs are still facing a number of unknowns about how the pandemic will affect their programming this year. One thing people can better understand right now is how government policies both help and limit summer learning efforts, a topic explored in this new report from RAND. We talked to one of the authors about the report and how to apply its lessons in this unprecedented moment.

Boeing Future U – Virtual Field Trip

This virtual field trip (VFT) takes students to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The behind-the-scenes video tour introduces students to just a few of the amazing Boeing employees who are preparing to write the next chapter of space history with the launch of the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft and the deployment of the Space Launch System (SLS). A Pre-Virtual Field Trip Companion Guide introduces students to topics they will encounter during the VFT (Length: two 45-minute class periods).
Grades 6-12                     Length: 28 Minutes, 6 segments
Boeing Future U – Online Lesson Plans
Standards-aligned STEM lessons guide students as they explore key concepts in aerospace and engineering. Students can contemplate moon tourism, create a landing system for the world’s first crewed Martian-bound spacecraft, learn about NASA’s citizen science projects, or design their own celestial body!
Designed for grades 6-8
Length: each activity is designed for three 45-60 minute class periods
Lessons can be adapted for completion by a single student

Girls Who Code at Home
Girls Who Code at Home  https://girlswhocode.com/code-at-home/  will launch of Girls Who Code Talks—a free virtual video series to support women and girls navigating changes to their college and career plans during pandemic.
Introducing NASA’s Satellite Servicing Projects Division’s new “Pass the Torque” Series, which gives teachers, students and everyone the chance to have their questions about NASA answered by engineers!
 This is how it works: At the beginning of the week, a short video will be posted introducing the engineer to Goddard’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and give people the chance to pose any questions they have in the comments. On Friday, another video will be posted, with the same engineer answering some of the questions gathered on social media. The first introduction video featuring Justin Brannan went live on Goddard’s Facebook and TwitterHere is a YouTube link as well.

MoMath (the National Museum of Mathematics) is pleased to announce new content for next week’s remote learning opportunities for students in grades pre-K through 12.
MathPlay Mini, MoMath’s drop-in program for preschoolers, is offering new content next week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  In All About the Number, 3-year-olds will have fun with counting and making their very own number lines.  Subtract with Strategy allows 4- and 5-year-olds to use number lines and ten frames to investigate problems described in words.  Learn more and register at mini.momath.org.
MoMath Online: Student Sessions offers educator-led sessions for students in grades pre-K through 12 and features new themes next week, such as Discovering Polyominoes for young learners and three new classes on mathematical games for middle schoolers.  Learn more and register at studentsessions.momath.org.
